2009 Jongmyo Daeje Memorial Service Announcement

The Jongmyo Grand Festival will be held in the order of Yeongnyeongjeon Jehyang, which starts at 9:30 a.m., Eoga Procession from 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 a.m. to Deoksugung Palace, Taepyeong-ro, Sejong-ro 4-way, Jongmyo, and Jeongjeon Jehyang, which will be held from 1 p.m.

Jongmyo Ritual is a ritual held to the king and queen of the Joseon Dynasty and is called Jongmyo Daeje because it was the largest and most important ritual held by the Joseon Dynasty. It was originally held five times a year in the first month of the four seasons in Chunha-chu-dong, but is now held only on the first Sunday of May.

Jongmyo Daeje, which was selected as the World Intangible Heritage in May 2001, is an event held at Jongmyo, a world cultural heritage, and is a rare traditional ritual in the world where you can enjoy tangible and intangible world heritage together. It is a comprehensive ritual of music, dance, and rituals that combines Jongmyo Jeryeak and Ilmu along with Jongmyo Jeryeok, and is said to be the essence of oriental traditional art.

The Cultural Heritage Administration and the Korea Cultural Heritage Protection Foundation have been actively attracting foreigners, including foreign journalists and ambassadors to Korea, since 2006 to promote the cultural value of Jongmyo Daeje internationally.
