We inform you that the restoration of Gyeongbokgung Palace Gyejodang is completed.

- Restoration of the main hall, Haenggak, etc. of Gyejodang has been completed with traditional materials and techniques… Open to the public from September 20th

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Gungnung Heritage Headquarters (Director Shin Seong-hee) will complete the restoration project of the Gyeongbokgung Gyejodang, which has been promoted since 2018, and open the restored Gyejodang area to the public from September 20.

Gyejodang is a part of the Donggung area located on the east side of Gyeongbokgung Palace, the space of the crown prince, and was used by Crown Prince (Munjong), who was in charge of political affairs on behalf of King Sejong. In particular, it was used as an important space symbolizing the continuity of the Joseon Dynasty's authority and succession, as well as the function of Donggung 進饌, such as giving a 賀 to the crown prince and opening a Jinchan, but it was destroyed around 1910 during the Japanese colonial era.

* 賀 Zoha: Go to the court and congratulate the king or crown prince and show courtesy

* Jin-chan (進饌): serving food as part of a royal feast

The restored Gyejodang area is a main hall with 5 bays in front and 3 bays in side, a woldae necessary for the ritual, a surrounding palace, a fence, and a Bongui Gate on the outer wall. The Cultural Heritage Administration collected various historical data and reviewed it by related experts during the restoration process, and faithfully applied traditional materials and techniques, such as wood, stone, and roof tiles, by hand.

* Haenggak (行閣)) : Jangnangnangnang (julhangnang) built in front of or left and right of a building

The restored Gyejodang area can be viewed by any visitor to Gyeongbokgung Palace without a separate prior application. It will be a valuable opportunity to feel the beauty of our traditional palace architecture, the hands of artisans, and the dignity of the Joseon Dharma Palace through the tour of the Gyejodang area. In addition, permanent exhibitions and education and experience programs will be operated in November to inform the significance of the restoration of the Gyejodang and the historicity of the pavilion.

* Beopgung (Law 宮): The best palace among the official palaces where the king resides

The Cultural Heritage Administration's Archery Relics Headquarters will continue to promote palace and ridge restoration projects, including Gyeongbokgung Palace, to preserve and inherit the unique value of palace and to create various historical and cultural environments for the people.
