We are informing you of the expected bloom of spring flowers in palaces and royal tombs

The Cultural Heritage Administration (Director Choi Kwang-sik) announces the expected time for spring flowers to bloom in palaces and royal tombs so that you can enjoy the atmosphere of spring in palaces and royal tombs.

The spring flowers of the palace are the first to announce the beginning of spring when the ginger trees of Changdeokgung Palace and Gyeongchunjeon Hwagye of Changgyeonggung Palace burst into bloom around March 17. Soon after, plum blossoms, the messenger of spring, bloom at Heungryemun fishing grounds in Gyeongbokgung Palace and Nakseonjae Pass in Changdeokgung Palace, and apricot trees, cherry trees, and peonies compete throughout the palace.

In the royal tomb, azaleas on the Royal Tomb of King Sejong, the Yongneung and Geonneung trails, and mountain cherry trees on the Seorung and Seolleung and Jeongneung trails bloom, and wildflowers such as azaleas, cornelian cherry trees, juniper trees, and wildflowers (revenge, golden cypress, etc.) bloom.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the timing of spring flowers blooming varies slightly depending on the region, but it is expected to be about two days earlier than usual. However, since the blooming of spring flowers is affected by temperature, sunshine time, and precipitation, there may be some differences from the expected blooming date depending on the weather change just before blooming.

Spring flowers take about a week to bloom, so you can enjoy the most beautiful spring flowers if you visit the palace and royal tombs a week before or after the blooming date, and you can also enjoy various cultural events (walking azalea flower paths, wild flower photo exhibitions, photo contests, etc.) during the blooming period.

The expected timing of spring flowers in palaces and royal tombs can be found on the Cultural Heritage Administration's website (press release), and details for visits such as the location of palaces and royal tombs, transportation, and viewing dates can be found on the website of each palace, tomb, and relic management center or by phone.
