2014 Winter Palace Night Opening Event Guide
The Cultural Heritage Administration will open the winter palace at night for six days, ▲ Changgyeonggung Palace from February 11 to 16 and ▲ Gyeongbokgung Palace from February 12 to 17, around the fifteenth of lunar January next year (2.14).
Initially, the winter night opening was planned to be implemented for 12 days each in January next year, but the opening time was inevitably adjusted to February and the period was reduced to 6 days to prevent safety accidents caused by freezing of roads in winter. In addition, the Daehonsil and Chundangji areas of Changgyeonggung Palace, which are vulnerable to fire, were excluded from the night opening this winter as they were very vulnerable to fire in winter as forest areas.
▲ The maximum number of visitors per day at Changgyeonggung Palace is 1,700 (1,570 on-site sales, 130 on-site sales), and the admission fee is 1,000 won, the same as during the week. The viewing time is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and the closing time for admission is 9 p.m., an hour before the viewing is completed. ▲ Gyeongbokgung Palace has a maximum number of visitors per day of 1,500 (1,390 Internet tickets and 110 on-site sales), and the admission fee is 3,000 won. The viewing time is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the closing time for admission is 8 p.m. In particular, in order to provide viewing opportunities to many people, the purchase of admission tickets to Changgyeonggung Palace and Gyeongbokgung Palace will be limited to "two tickets per person" (Internet and site).
Internet reservations are available from 2 p.m. on February 6 next year to 2 p.m. on February 6th to ▲ Gyeongbokgung Palace from 2 p.m. on February 7th at Auction Ticket (http://ticket.auction.co.kr ). Initially, general tickets were sold on the Internet and on-site at the same time, but when they are opened, all general tickets will be sold only on the Internet to resolve the cold winter and the inconvenience of waiting on-site to purchase tickets.
However, senior citizens and foreigners aged 65 or older who have difficulty using the Internet during the sales period can book by phone (except Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, Sunday and public holidays) only for ▲ 65 Changgyeonggung Palace and 55 Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the same quantity will be sold separately on site. In addition, 50 people with disabilities (free including one guardian) and infants and toddlers under the age of 6 with their parents can enter for free at the site.
For order and safety management, the visit will be checked at the entrance with the cooperation of related agencies such as the National Police Agency, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the Jongno-gu Office to prevent visitors from bringing flammable substances or alcohol into the palace.
Meanwhile, organizations and companies (excluding individuals) interested in cultural heritage volunteer activities during the night opening period next winter will be openly recruited from January 2 to 29. Openly recruited volunteer groups and companies receive simple training such as the history of the old palace and safety management tips, and patrol nightly open sites or guide viewing routes.
Organizations and companies wishing to volunteer shall select and notify each palace management office after self-examination when applying on the website of the relevant palace management office. (Individuals who volunteer do not accept applications.)
