The free opening is part of the government's support measures for low-income teenagers and students from multicultural families, and will take effect on August 12, the International Youth Day set by the United Nations to arouse the public's interest in youth.
If you wish to visit the palace and royal tombs for free, you can show your student ID, youth ID, resident registration card, and driver's license at the ticket office of the palace and tomb, and enter with a free ticket.
In addition, the Cultural Heritage Administration decided to implement a "pre-booking system for youth groups" and a "allocation system for leaders such as instructors" from the 12th, when free viewing will be expanded. If more than 35 teenagers, including 35 students, want to visit the palace or tomb website in advance, and one guidance teacher for every 35 teenagers, including students, must be assigned to guide them from the entrance to the end of the tour.
The "pre-booking system for youth groups" and the "allocation system for leaders such as instructors" will be implemented to keep the order of viewing and focus on learning cultural heritage, which will be mandatory from January 1, 2014 after a voluntary compliance period (5 months).
In addition, from the 12th, the four major palaces and Jongmyo Information Leaflets, which had been distributed free of charge and abandoned, will be paid 500 won per copy. The Cultural Heritage Administration, however, has prepared a free way to view information leaflets to promote history education for teenagers such as students and to guarantee the public's right to know, and you can print them out from the websites of the four major palaces and Jongmyo Shrine or download them on your smartphone.
