Meeting with the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Tango at Changgyeonggung Palace

The Changgyeonggung Management Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold performances at Tongmyeongjeon and Munjeongjeon Hall of Changgyeonggung Palace from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on September 10 under the theme of meeting UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage "Tango" and our traditional palace "Changgyeonggung."

First, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 10th, Tango's representative instrument, Bandoneon's concert, and instrument exhibition will be held at Tongmyeongjeon Hall in Changgyeonggung Palace, and Tango performance with commentary will be held at Munjeongjeon Hall. After the regular viewing of Changgyeonggung Palace, a traditional Argentine tango performance and concert will be held at Munjeongjeon from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The night performance has the largest stage among the 10-day events. Lautaro Greco, dubbed the genius Bandoneonist in Argentina, Solo Tango Orkesta, a world-loved tango band from Russia, Juan Bulich & Rocio Liendo, tango choreographers from Argentina, the home of tango, and Daniel and Augustina's passion for music.

In particular, Argentine tango choreographers will wear hanbok and dance tango to modern Korean traditional music. The stage costume Hanbok (produced by Kim Sook-jin) is designed with wrinkles of the old palace and tuxedo, a Western suit, to enhance the tango's movement and create a different feeling for visitors.

In addition, it plans to perform a joint performance by a tango band and Daegeum (performer Lee Geun-sik), and a variety of tango stages that combine literature, vocal, performance and dance by local tango singer Lee Sun-min (Mina) and voice actor Yoon So-ra.

Anyone who visits Changgyeonggung Palace can watch the daytime performance of this event, and the night performance can be participated through advance reservations (100 people on a first-come, first-served basis) at the Changgyeonggung website (http://cgg.cha.go.kr ) from 2 p.m. on September 5. Pre-bookers of the night event can present a reservation certificate at the ticket office from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., purchase a ticket to Changgyeonggung Palace (1,000 won), and enter Munjeongjeon Hall, the venue, through the main gate according to the guide of the event staff. Changgyeonggung Palace, which has a traditional garden and history in the city center, is a beautiful palace lined with 160 rare species of trees, old trees that have preserved years, wide ponds and beautiful temples. Tango, on the other hand, is a powerful and beautiful attractive dance that originated in Argentina and Uruguay in South America, and is loved by people around the world in recognition of its artistry.
